Zits
The main character in this novel is a teenager named Zits. Zits is half Native American, half Irish. He doesn't have a good complexion and his face is full of zits. That's where he got his nickname. While growing up, he was in and out of foster care because of his mother's death of cancer when he was six. His father, on the other hand, had ran out on his mom. Zits was 15 and was into many illegal things and had been put in jail many times. This character is full of anger and is alone with nobody for him to love and no one to love him back.
Zits wanted many things in his teenage life. He felt so helpless and thought nobody could ever love him they way his mother did. All he wanted was love and to be cared for like other teenagers. Another thing Zits wanted was a clear face, and Zits got this from his father. He had piles and piles of zits all over his face, and just wanted a way to get out of that. When it came to anger Zits had a lot of it and had gotten it from his father. He didn't want to fight but that was the only thing he knew how to do to keep himself safe.
Zits wanted all of those things but so many things were in the way. He couldn't achieve them because he was in foster care. The struggling teenager gave up in finding a foster parent that cared. Once he thought he had found someone, but he was a complete jerk. Zits' face was a mess of pimples and all his foster parents never did anything about it. He couldn't get a clear face because the products were so much money. Zits had no solutions for his problems especially when it came to anger.
In the end, Zits does achieve these things; and he gets what he finally wants. He gets love from a person who was always there but seemed like the bad guy. He had known him from the past arrests and other mishaps. The deputy cared for him and gave him a loving home with his brother. Zits was comfortable there and his new parents treated him different compared to the others. He was finally loved by someone, they weren't Indian, but they cared. To show him how much they did care, they gave him acne cream. Zits cried; he had never had the chance to have his face clear, and it finally came. After that Zits was less violent and was more relaxed. His name was no longer Zits it was Micheal.
